Hunter CC is a maximum-security facility for male offenders located on the Cessnock Correctional Complex, 151 km northwest of Sydney and 48 km west of Newcastle. Like Macquarie CC, Hunter CC has dormitory-style accommodation and is known as a ‘Rapid Build’ prison due to the speed of it's construction.
We inpected Hunter CC for the first time for our The Macquarie and Hunter Correctional Centres Report that was tabled in NSW Parliament and published in November 2020. We inspected Hunter CC for the second time in 2024 and are in the process of preparing a report outlining our findings.
