This inspection examined the management of people in custody under arrangements which restrict their time out of cells and isolate them from other inmates. These arrangements include:

  • separation
  • confinement
  • assessment cells

We examined records from a sample of eight correctional centres pertaining to their use of the procedures examined by this review -

  • Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre
  • Parklea Correctional Centre
  • Clarence Correctional Centre
  • Mid North Coast Correctional Centre
  • Metropolitan Special Programs Centre
  • Dillwynia Correctional Centre
  • Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre

The Inspector made 33 recommendations in this report.
