Acmena YJC is located on the land of the Gumbaynngirr people at Grafton in northern NSW. The centre accommodates young males aged between 10 and 21. Young women and girls may also be accommodated for short periods. The centre has the capacity to accommodate up to 45 young people.
We have inspected Acmena YJC four times since 2016 for our Use of Force, Separation, Segregation and Confinement in NSW Juvenile Justice Centres Report, the Inspection of Six Youth Justice Centres in NSW Report (2022), the Inspection of Six Youth Justice Centres Report (2024) and the Unannounced Inspections of Six Youth Justice Centres (2025).
