We conducted an inspection of Broken Hill Correctional Centre in February 2022.
- Broken Hill Correctional Centre is a medium and minimum security facility that accommodates up to 89 men and women
- the centre accommodates for a high percentage of Aboriginal men and women
- the centre is located 1190km west of Sydney in the town centre of Broken Hill.
Our inspection focused on:
- custodial conditions, including safety and security
- treatment, care and wellbeing of inmates, including privacy
- rehabilitation of inmates, including programs, education, and preparation for release
- resources and systems, including the staffing and management of each correctional centre.
The Inspector of Custodial Services may consider any other relevant matters in the course of this inspection.
