Oberon and Cooma Correctional Centres

We will conduct inspections of Cooma and Oberon correctional centres in February and March 2020.

• Cooma Correctional Centre is a male minimum and medium security facility. It accommodates approximately 180 inmates.
• Oberon Correctional Centre is a male minimum security facility. It accommodates approximately 130 inmates.

Our inspection will focus on:

• custodial conditions, including safety and security
• treatment, care and wellbeing of inmates, including privacy
• rehabilitation of inmates, including programs, education, and preparation for release
• reparation through inmate employment
• resources and systems, including the staffing and management of each correctional centre.

The Inspector of Custodial Services may consider any other relevant matters in the course of this inspection.
