Bathurst Correctional Centre (CC) is located on the land of the Wiradjuri people. The centre is 3 km from Bathurst town centre and 200 km west of Sydney. It is a multi-classification correctional centre accommodating up to 780 sentenced and remand inmates. Originally opened in 1888, it operates some of the oldest and newest parts of the custodial estate across three distinct areas: maximum security (Sector 1), medium security (Sector 2) and minimum security (Sector 3).
We have inspected Bathurst CC twice. The first time we inspected the centre it was as part of our Programs, Education and Employment report in 2018 (published in February 2020). We then inspected Bathurst CC in 2023 for a standalone report about the centre that was tabled in NSW Parliament on 14 February 2025. In the most recent inspection of Bathurst CC we made 41 recommendations.
