Background

This was the second inspection of Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre. The centre was previously inspected in April 2018 as part of a thematic review into Programs, Employment and Education (PDF, 7.2 MB).

Where we inspected

Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre is a minimum and medium security facility for men located on the Francis Greenway Correctional Complex in Windsor, 60km from Sydney. The centre can accommodate up to 354 inmates accross four accommodation sectors. 

Recommendations

The Inspector made 40 recommendations within the report. These include systemic and facility specific improvements in:

  • Conditions and treatment of inmates
  • Staffing and custodial support and procedures
  • Access to health and services for inmates
  • Custodial infrastructure
