Junee Correctional Centre

Background

This was the second time the ICS has inspected Junee Correctional Centre (Junee CC). The first inspection was in 2018 as part of a thematic inspection on access to health services in NSW correctional facilities. (PDF, 2.9 MB)

Where we inspected

Junee CC is located in the Riverina region of NSW, approximately 435km southwest of Sydney. The centre has a capacity of 1,279 across separate maximum, medium and minimum security areas for men and a small transitional unit for women. 

Recommendations

The Inspector made 49 recommendations within the report. These include systemic and facility specific improvements in:

• Conditions and treatment of inmates
• Staffing and custodial support and procedures
• Access to health and services for inmates
• Custodial infrastructure
