Inspector of Custodial Services

Kirkconnell Correctional Centre

Kirkconnell Correctional Centre (Kirkconnell CC) is a minimum security facility for men located between Bathurst and Lithgow, approximately 180 kilometres west of Sydney. Built in 1958, the centre initially operated as the Kirkconnell Afforestation Camp. The centre closed in October 2011, but was reopened again in 2015 and has operated continuously since that time. The centre can accommodate up to 196 inmates who can participate in programs, education, and employment including work release or external leave programs.

Kirkconnell CC was first inspected in 2019 in conjunction with Kariong Correctional Centre and the Integration Support Centre. We then inspected Kirkconnell CC for the Inspection of Kirkconnell Correctional Centre report that was tabled in NSW parliament and published on 26 November 2024. We made 21 recommendations.
