Inspector of Custodial Services

Macquarie Correctional Centre

Macquarie Correctional Centre (Macquarie CC) houses maximum-security male offenders and is located on the Wellington Correctional Complex, situated on Wiradjuri Country, approximately 350 km west of Sydney.

Macquarie CC is like Hunter Correctional Centre and has unique dormitory-style accommodation. The centre was opened in February 2018 in response to a growing inmate population in NSW. It is known as a ‘Rapid Build’ prisons due to the speed of which it was constructed. The inmate accommodation is divided into four blocks (A-block, B-block, C-block and D-block) and each block is split into four dormitories, each of which can hold up to 25 inmates. The centre can hold up to 400 inmates.

We first inspected Macquarie CC in December 2019 for the Inspection of Macquarie Correctional Centre and Hunter Correctional Centre report. We most recently inspected Macquarie CC in August 2024 for the Inspection of Macquarie and Hunter Correctional Centres report that was tabled in NSW Parliament on 17 December 2025. We made 29 recommendations. The media release for this report can be found here (PDF, 47.2 KB)
