Inspector of Custodial Services

Emu Plains Correctional Centre

We will inspect Emu Plains Correctional Centre (Emu Plains CC) located in Emu Plains, approximately 60 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district.

Emu Plains CC currently operates a minimum-security facility works release centre for men, as well as a residential program for women and children. The centre has been partially re-purposed since we last inspected in April 2021. At that time it was operating a minimum-security facility for women, as well as the residential program for women and children.

We also inspected Emu Plains CC in 2015 and 2016 as part of our report Prison Greens: The clothing and bedding of inmates in NSW.

Relevant standards, legislation, policies, and procedures will inform the inspection, with the following focus areas:

  • Custody
  • Care and wellbeing
  • Programs, employment and education
  • Resources and systems

The Inspector of Custodial Services may consider any other matters relevant to this inspection.
